CARATTERISTICHE DEL DATABASE
UltraLiteJ è un leggerissimo relazionale database.

Fornisce un storage basato su tabelle in un singolo data-storage, chiavi primarie e secondarie, indici per accedere ai dati, supporto alle transazioni incluso transazione atomiche (rollback e commit), database recovery e accesso SQL ai date. UltraLiteJ è configurabile, vi peremette di immagazzinare dati in modo persistente e far girare il database in memoria.

CARATTERISTICHE DI SINCRONIZZAZIONE DATI
UltraLiteJ is a client for SQL Anywhere MobiLink data synchronization.

Fornisce sincronizzazioni bidirezionali di un sottoinsieme dei dati o di tutto il database. La sincronizzazione opera sia in HTTP che in HTTPS. Ogni upload di dati al server o download dal server è trattato come una singola transazione.

Quando un client è sincronizzato, UltraLiteJ mantiene in tracking delle modifiche e fornisce tutte quelle funzioni necessarie agli sviluppatori BalckBerry per costruire sincronizzazioni corrette per le loro applicazioni. Insieme a Mobilink permette di integrare sulle unità mobili i database Oracle®, SQL Server, DB2, Sybase ASE e SQL Anywhere e fornisce anche un interfaccia ai sistemi enterprise come alle applicazioni di Enterprise Resource Planning e agli Web services. MobiLink è una tecnologia di sincronizzazione matura che è stata utilizzata in molte grandi aziende in tutto il mondo da migliaia di utenti.

REQUISITI DI SISTEMA
UltraLiteJ supporta gli smartphone BlackBerry che girano su BlackBerry OS 4.1 o successivo.

Per sviluppare applicazioni BackBerry dovete avere gli strumenti di sviluppo adeguati. UltraLiteJ è progettato per essere usato con "Research in Motion BlackBerry JDE" versione 4.1 o successiva e "MDS Services". Gli strumenti di sviluppo BlackBerry sono resi disponibili dal Porgramma di sviluppo della BlackBerry.

E' disponibile la Developer Edition di SQL Anywhere per Macs "free of charge". 

SQL Anywhere è stato progettato per indirizzare le caratteristiche uniche tanto degli ambienti di frontline, come le altre prestazioni necessarie ai server e alle applicazioni desktop che girano su siti di clienti remoti, applicazioni workgroup installate in uffici e dipartimenti remoti, applicazioni mobili usati dai commerciali o dal personale tecnico. SQL Anywhere fornisce la prima soluzione di sincronizzazione bidirezionale tra database server eterogenei e database che girano su Mac e altre macchine.

The SQL Anywhere product is an entire suite of database applications and servers. It runs on many platforms, including Windows Mobile. Using Visual Studio, programmers can develop database applications that run on a Windows Mobile device.

One of the biggest problems I've run into when developing for mobile devices is data storage. Two problems come up. First, I’ll often be synchronizing with a server using a SQL database. Second, I want to use relational databases in my mobile app itself while most devices today don’t natively support SQL.

About a year ago, I started exploring Sybase’s SQL Anywhere product for another project that I was working on here at the office, and I was quite impressed. SQL Anywhere is actually a suite of tools, and included in it are several desktop versions, as well as a version that runs on Windows Mobile. Additionally, there’s the Ultralite edition, which runs on smaller Windows CE devices and Palm OS, and the Ultralite J edition—the J is for Java—which runs on BlackBerry and J2SE (Java 2 Platform Standard Edition).

What’s cool about the Windows Mobile edition is it allows developers to have full relational database access through SQL right on a mobile dAevice running Windows Mobile. Users can store the tables right on the device, and later synchronize them with a server. For many of us, this is exactly what we need.

Sybase recently released version 11 of SQL Anywhere. For this article, I’m exploring the SQL Anywhere on a Windows Mobile 6 device (specifically an HTC/AT&T 8525 phone that has been upgraded to Windows Mobile 6).

Multi-Platform Support

SQL Anywhere databases support a wide range of operating systems, includingWindows (32 and 64 bit),Mac OS X,Netware, Linux (32 and 64 bit), Solaris (32 and 64 bit), and a range of other UNIX variants, as well as popular handheld platforms such as MicrosoftWindows Mobile, Palm OS, and Symbian. SQL Anywhere database files are binary compatible across platforms, enabling developers to simply copy databases to multiple operating systems.

SQL Anywhere Server includes 128-bit strong encryption options, including FIPS 140-2 validated encryption, resulting in true end-to-end security. Communications encryption protects the confidentiality and integrity of packets as they pass between the client device and the server.
