Our history with databases part one
      Linkedin newletter, January 16 2023

Sometimes we find ourselves saying that databases are our hallmark. Often the intent is to strengthen the credibility of the Softpi technical proposal towards customers and prospects.

In fact, there are some valid reasons. Since the early nineties, we have distributed in Italy Sybase SQL Server, today Adaptive Server Enterprise (ASE), one of the first relational databases in Client/Server architecture, offering customers technical support and consultancy services on behalf of the American company to configuration, tuning and monitoring.

Incidentally, we also commissioned Sybase to develop the first Oracle communication middleware at the time.

When the most widespread databases did not yet include some form of object orientation, we introduced in Italy one of the very first commercial object-relational databases: UniSQL which competed for the market with Illustra, the latter later acquired by Informix.
With ASE and the Replication Server, our database administrators have been supporting leading companies in the telecommunications and finance markets day and night for decades.

Other colleagues assist software houses, which operate for example in the retail market or offer their own ERP, in data synchronization with SQL Anywhere. They contribute to the evolution of data-oriented applications of some Partners towards databases such as Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Oracle, MySQL.

I would also like to talk about SAP Hana, SynitiRS and other adventures. Like those of many other realities, they are largely due to the encounters and energies that are released in the unraveling of the life of the company. For now, goodbye, postponing to the next episode, and thank you for the patience of this reading.
